Technical terminology can be useful, but not when we are talking about things that are not technical. In certain cases, technical terms provide a concise description of an activity to those who understand them. However, it causes a problem, when you are talking to someone who doesn’t understand the language or, worse, misuses it. Sometimes what we say is not what we mean. Sometimes that’s because we really don’t know what we’re talking about, but want to sound like we do. Other times it’s a way to stop others from really understanding what is really happening. Working with our customers as close as we do, in some quite complex situations, means that trust is vital. Trust is often forthcoming in relationships when people speak common sense and do not use technical terminology!
