In a business world that is often perceived as chaotic and rushed, we need empathy to create connections, bring people together and to forge friendships. In technology assignments empathy promotes understanding of the ‘other’, sharpens our capacity to relate and enables us to develop healthy working relationships.

The art of imaginatively stepping into another person’s shoes and seeing the world from their perspective is more valuable now from a software perspective than ever before and an essential component when work collaboratively.

But how do we develop these feelings and who has the responsibility of engendering this understanding?

Can empathy be taught?
